Basking in the euphoria of the successful launch of NigeriaSat-X , the first satellite built by her engineers , Nigeria has adjusted its space programme now making the launch of a rocket into space as the country’s next goal in space technology.
Ita Bassey Ewa, Nigeria’s minister of science and technology said that the launch of a rocket after the successful launch of SAT-2 and SAT X, would demonstrate Nigeria’s commitment as an active player in the global space sector.
Ewa said Nigeria’s interest in rocket would also serve as a motivating force to engage indigenous Physicists to increase their knowledge as well as enable them teach the principles of physics in orbit.
The minister disclosed the plan when he received a delegation from the Nigerian Institute of Physics, led by its national president, Emeka Okwueze in Abuja.
“The launch of rockets into space will be our next port of call. We will soon tell Nigerians that we are launching rockets. We can use the opportunity to teach our students physics”
He urged the institute to be in the forefront of activities to promote the study of physics in secondary and tertiary institutions in the country.
