Who We Are
AfricaSTI.com is operated by a collection of African science journalists committed to the provision of a veritable platform for the dissemination of accurate and balanced news, features and editorials on significant developments in science, health, agriculture and climate change on and about Africa.
We hope to give continental and Diaspora African scientists a voice.
Our Mission
Our mission is to contribute to the search for alternative development ideas for Africa rooted in scientific thoughts, processes and outcomes including related engagements in and about the continent.
Our Strategy
We shall operate a robust web platform as the hub for a global multimedia content provision enterprise based in Africa and therefore best suited to tell Africa’s development story from the inside.
Our Team
The AfricaSTI team is made up of journalists practicing in over 20 countries across the continent who have been exposed to global best practices in science reporting especially in terms of sourcing, ethics, methodology and style.
The team is led by Diran Onifade a science journalism fellow of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who reported for the Nigerian Television Authority Network News for 23 years.
He is President of the African Federation of Science Journalists and former Vice President of the World Federation of Science Journalists.
Our Commitment
We hope to serve a variety of backgrounds. Our audiences include policy makers, scientists, science professionals, those seeking evidence-based solutions to Africa’s challenges and those following scientific developments on the continent. But we are a news medium and not a scientific journal.
Although some of us have science backgrounds, we are first and foremost, public-serving journalists.
Hence we bear no baggage of dogma or ideology. Our commitment is to that science that serves the public good, solves problems and advances the development of Africa and mankind.
To that extent we shall honour alliances and partnerships. Just to that extent.
